I fished Lake Winnebago several times this week and like most people I've heard from, found the bite to be pretty slow. I have been spending the majority of my time fishing the mud flats between Neenah and Oshkosh. I also spent some time fishing some reefs with nothing to show for it.
I have found some schools of fish roaming the mud flats and have caught mixed bags of mostly white bass and perch. Because there is little structure on the flats the fish are constantly on the move. The key to finding these fish is to keep moving. I never like to fish a spot for more than 10-15 minutes without marking a fish or getting a bite. Also try to avoid the large crowds, I believe all the noise from trucks driving around and holes being drilled really puts a damper on the fishing.
Most of the fish I've caught this week have been on Salmo chubby darters or hammered silver swedish pimples tipped with wax worms. I've found most of the fish this week to be in a very negative mood and not very willing to open their mouths. Keeping the bait moving seems to be the best way to trigger a bite.
Good luck out there to everyone!
