Fishing report for February 28th, 2010

The ice is melted on the Fox River and the walleyes are snapping!

As of today only one boat launch on the river is ice free. That is the Metro boat launch at the mouth of the river, the other two (Fox Point and the Fairgrounds) are still iced in at this time. We have found this week that a slow presentation and a light jig are crucial to capturing good numbers of fish. We have been using minnows primarily to tip our jigs, but we will probably start using some plastics in the coming days. Even though the fish are demanding a slow presentation right now, they have been hitting with vengeance. Nearly every walleye we've landed has had the jig completely engulfed.

Good luck out there!
